Mic’s Eye View
In Cycle 10, students get a chance to exercise their drum recording chops using a variety of mics in the Conservatory’s Studio D, which is sometimes more affectionately known as the D Room.
When it comes to audio, the Conservatory not only teaches how to operate the gear, but how to repair it as well. Students are given an under-the-hood look at studio and live sound operations in their Troubleshooting and Maintenance classes.
Cycle 8 and Cycle 10 students recently recorded Sax and Percussion in surround with some of the latest gear from Trinnov and LatchLake. The Cycle 8 surround recording class used the Trinnov High Spatial Resolution Surround Recording Platform (SRP) to capture various passes of Baritone, Tenor and Alto Saxophone in the Conservatory’s Studio D.
