Cynthia Campbell
From Local Stages to Major Tours
What if going to work meant going on tour with some of the biggest names in music?
For CRAS graduate Cynthia Campbell, discovering that people actually made a living working behind the sound changed everything. Today, her career takes her around the world working behind the scenes of live shows, festivals and major tours.
She Followed the Sound
Cynthia didn’t always know what she wanted to do. Then one day, while completing community service at a church, she heard music playing through the sound system and asked the engineer what he was doing. His answer was simple: working. That moment opened her eyes to something she hadn’t considered before. Working with music could actually be a career.
From CRAS to the Live Stage
After attending CRAS and landing an internship at a prominent Hollywood studio, Cynthia’s path eventually brought her back to Phoenix and into live sound. She started taking gigs, learning from experienced techs and working her way through nearly every position at The Van Buren. Those experiences grew into a career working as a monitor engineer, RF tech, PA tech and more.
Coachella. Doechii. Ice Cube. The Strokes.
Cynthia’s career has taken her from local stages to some of the biggest shows in live music. She’s mixed monitors at Coachella, worked with artists including Doechii and Ice Cube, and toured as a monitor and RF tech with The Strokes. Behind every performance are people like Cynthia making sure the microphones, monitors, wireless systems, cabling and countless technical details come together when the show starts.
You Never Know Where Sound Can Take You
Cynthia’s career shows that working in audio doesn’t have to mean sitting behind a console in a recording studio. It can mean arenas, festivals, touring, live sound, monitor engineering, RF technology and being part of the crew that makes the show happen. At CRAS, you learn the skills. Where you take them is up to you.
