Music. Movies. Games. And More.
What if loving music is just the beginning of where audio could take you?
For CRAS graduate Ethan Obbema, music had always been part of the plan. What he didn’t know was which direction it would take him. Today, he’s a Post Production Manager at Warner Chappell Production Music with credits spanning major films, television and video games.
Music Was Just the Beginning
Ethan started playing instruments at five years old and continued studying music throughout high school. When he came to CRAS, he thought working in a recording studio might be his future. Instead, exposure to different areas of audio introduced him to post-production and game audio and opened his eyes to careers he hadn’t considered before.
Finding His Direction at CRAS
At CRAS, Ethan took advantage of the opportunity to experiment, work with different gear and explore different sides of audio. The more he learned, the less concerned he became with choosing one specific path. He focused instead on building skills, understanding how things worked and preparing himself to walk into different environments ready to work.
From CRAS to Film, Television & Games
After graduating from CRAS in 2017, Ethan interned at Mutato Muzika and was hired as an assistant engineer, quickly finding himself working on major projects including Thor: Ragnarok and The LEGO Ninjago Movie. His career continued to grow with work on The Flash, Venom, The Mitchells vs. the Machines, Alien: Romulus, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater. Along the way, he moved from assistant engineer to head engineer, composer, arranger and freelance engineer before becoming Post Production Manager at Warner Chappell Production Music.
Your Career Doesn’t Have to Follow One Path
Ethan came to CRAS thinking about one kind of career and discovered an entire world of possibilities. His path has taken him through recording, post-production, composing, mixing, film, television, video games and roles he couldn’t have predicted when he started. At CRAS, you learn the skills. Where you take them is up to you.
