From CRAS to a Career in Sound

Evyn DeBoer | CRAS Graduate

Evyn DeBoer

What if you know music is your future, but you don’t know exactly where it could take you?

For CRAS graduate Evyn DeBoer, music was always part of her life. She knew she wanted to build a career around it, but she didn’t know exactly what that career would look like. At CRAS, she found her direction.

Music Was Always Part of the Plan

Evyn grew up surrounded by music, with a piano teacher for a mom and a drummer for a dad. She played drums, danced, wrote songs and eventually knew she wanted music to be part of her future. After high school, she also knew a traditional four-year college wasn’t the path she wanted. CRAS gave her the opportunity to explore different sides of audio and discover where she fit.

Then One Class Changed Everything

During a scoring class at CRAS, Evyn discovered the direction she wanted to take. A fan of film scores and composer Hans Zimmer, she asked her instructor if working at Remote Control Productions, Zimmer’s production company, was actually possible. When she learned it was, she had a new goal.

From CRAS to Her Dream Studio

After graduating from CRAS in 2022, Evyn interned at Monkeyland Audio, gaining experience with Foley, dialogue editing and dub stages. She stayed connected with CRAS internship coordinators, which eventually helped connect her with an opportunity at Remote Control Productions. Soon after, she landed her first official engineering job at the studio she had set her sights on while still at CRAS, working alongside one of her favorite composers.

From a Dream to the Credits

Evyn’s career has continued to grow as an assistant engineer, mixer, recording engineer and technician, with projects including Sinners, Severance Season 2, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning and The Final Reckoning. She also earned a mixing engineer credit for the score of Battlefield 6, while continuing to write, record and mix her own music and beginning work as a composer.

You Don’t Have to Know Exactly Where You’re Going

Evyn knew she wanted a career in music, but she came to CRAS open to discovering what that could mean. One class introduced her to film scoring. One question gave her a goal. And that goal eventually took her to the studio she dreamed about working in. At CRAS, you learn the skills. Where you take them is up to you.
