From CRAS to a Career in Sound

Hannah Kacmarsky | CRAS Graduate

What if the career you’re meant for is one you haven’t discovered yet?

For CRAS graduate Hannah Kacmarsky, the original plan was psychology and pre-med. Then an audio engineering class changed everything. Today, she’s an engineer at Capitol, with credits that include Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy-winning album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.

The Class That Changed Everything

Music had always been part of Hannah’s life. She played instruments, wrote songs and experimented with recording, but she initially headed to college as a pre-med psychology major. After realizing that wasn’t the career she wanted, she eventually took an introductory audio engineering class. Her instructor saw something in her and encouraged her to pursue audio. Hannah listened.

CRAS Became the Next Step

As Hannah learned more about audio, she started looking for a way to turn that interest into a career. CRAS stood out because of its hands-on training and Internship Program. For Hannah, having a path that could take what she was learning and connect it to an opportunity in the industry made the decision clear.

From CRAS to Major Studios

After graduating from CRAS in 2018, Hannah interned at Bedrock Studios before landing her first paid professional position as a runner at Westlake Studios. From there, she moved to EastWest Studios, worked her way up to assistant engineer and eventually joined Evergreen Studios as an assistant and engineer. Today, Hannah is an engineer at Capitol Studios. Along the way, she has worked with artists including Jennifer Hudson and earned an engineering credit on Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy-winning album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.

You Don’t Have to Have It All Figured Out

Hannah started college thinking she was headed toward a completely different career. One class introduced her to audio, and that discovery changed her direction. Today, she’s an engineer at one of the most recognized recording studios in the industry, working in the career she discovered almost by accident. At CRAS, you learn the skills. Where you take them is up to you.
